The Department of Health and Hospitals Office of Public Health is now making the flu vaccine available to anyone, regardless of their likelihood for catching the flu this season.

Officials believe a majority of the target population (those at high-risk for contracting the flu) have already received the vaccine, and the supply around the state is abundant enough to allow for expanding availability of the vaccine to individuals not regularly served by the Office of Public Health.

Anyone interested in obtaining a flu shot can do so at their Parish Health Unit at a cost of $10. The remaining flu vaccine will be available to individuals on a first come, first serve basis.

Due to limited quantities, people are urged to contact their Parish Health Unit before attempting to obtain a flu shot. For more information on contacting your Parish Health Unit, visit this site.
