The John J. Hainkel Jr. Home and Rehabilitation Center will open its Adult Day Health Care Center on Nov. 15. The center, which is located at 612 Henry Clay Ave. in Uptown New Orleans, will host a Grand Opening health fair to celebrate the opening.
The community is invited to attend the fair on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Health screenings available include blood pressure, vision and hearing, along with health education materials. There will also be food, door prizes and live music from the Storyville Stompers.
Formerly know as the New Orleans Home and Rehabiliation Center, the John J. Hainkel Jr. Home is owned and operated by the state of Louisiana with an Advisory Board led by Mary Brooks Rodrigue. In 2003, the Board raised $300,000 through private donations to contribute to this new program that will provide an alternative to traditional nursing facility care.
“Since Katrina, the need for these services is even greater, and we are excited that this innovative, community-based program will be part of the new health care system,” Rodrigue said. “The Boards decision to fund the renovation will continue the history and strengthen the services to the community.”
The Adult Day Health Care Center allows clients to live in their homes and visit the center during the day to receive services such as health care education and assistance with activities of daily living. The Center also provides recreational activities and opportunities for social interaction. Caregivers choose the days and hours they want their family members to attend and transportation to and from the facility is available.
“Adult day care is considered to be one of the best kept secrets in health care,” said Dr. Charles A. Cefalu, the centers medical director and a nationally recognized expert in geriatric care. “The ultimate goal of the center is to promote greater independence and community involvement to prevent or delay nursing facility
placement.”
For more information on the Grand Opening or the services offered by the center, contact Program Director Syril Schultz at 504-896-1414 or Sschultz@dhh.la.gov.

We are interested in opening other private funding Adult Day Care Center in the Lafayette, La area. I was wandering if there is a site that we can look at or if I can visit your facility since I hear that you have a premiere Adult Day Care Center in the New Orleans Area.
Thanks
