The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has opened an adult residential shelter care facility located on the campus of Villa Feliciana Medical Complex outside of Jackson, Louisiana. Gateway House is surrounded by 120 fenced acres in the rolling hills of East Feliciana Parish.
The facility will provide personal assistance, meals and lodging in a home-like environment for people with mental disabilities. The Gateway House program, a joint effort of Villa Feliciana Medical Complex and DHH’s Office of Mental Health, was designed to create an inviting, safe home for adults who have recently been discharged from Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System.
The ultimate goal is to assist these individuals in transitioning from an institutional to a community setting that will permit them to live more independently and have an improved quality of life.
Gateway House will be licensed by the Louisiana Department of Social Services and will be staffed with employees who are trained to respond to the individual needs and goals of each resident. Villa Feliciana Medical Complex and Gateway are both administered by James E. Bradham, who has been at Villa Feliciana Medical Complex since 1997.
