Teen years, fathers play roles in obesity

A study of Australian children found that overweight teenagers are likely to become obese adults.

Meanwhile, another Australian study claims that fathers play a critical role in childhood obesity. Apparently, fathers who are less involved in child rearing are more likely to have overweight or obese offspring.

LA working to reduce infant mortality

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, Louisiana has a 10.4 infant mortality rate, meaning at least 10 babies die before age 1 for every 1,000 births. As usual, we are neck-and-neck with Mississippi, which, at 10.2, is the only other state with a rate over 10. Nevertheless, the state is making strides in this area.
