The Pennington Biomedical Research Center at LSU will soon test an intriguing method for combating obesity: blocking a person’s sense of smell. The project has received a green light from the Food & Drug Administration and investigators say they will complete the first phase of the research in the second half of 2008.

Excellent idea! Lets block the sense of smell.
Then one day, if you should have a gas leak in your kitchen, and you turn on a light, causing a spark, and an explosion, then KABOOM!!!
Your obesity problem will be solved because you'll be DEAD and perhaps the rest of your family as well, all because you were unable to smell the gas leak.
Or you might die from food poisoning because you are unable to smell a food item that has gone bad!
HELLO!!!!!
Nature gave us the sense of smell for a reason! It can sometimes save your life.
I have a better idea!!!
Why not also take away our eyesight so we can't see the food we are eating, to take the edge of of one's appetite.
And while we are at it, lets take away our ability to hear sounds, or take away the sense of touch!
Yeah! Let's do away with all the five senses!
The Food & Drug Administration are all a bunch of morons!
Anymore bright ideas???
