Electrical hazards are extremely dangerous, so in order to avoid them:

  • DO NOT touch power lines even if they are intact or on the ground
  • DO NOT use electric tools if you are standing in water
  • DO NOT drive into puddles near downed power lines
  • If a power line falls on your car while you are driving, stay inside your car and continue driving
  • DO NOT attempt to turn on power in your home or business – Call an electrician or the power company to turn your power on.
  • If your circuits have gotten wet, turn off the power at the main circuit breaker or fuse
  • If you see sparks or smell a burning odor when the power is turned back on, immediately shut off the electric at the circuit breaker

Gas Leaks are dangerous, be aware:

  • DO NOT turn on gas until you have checked with the gas company
  • If you smell gas (rotten egg smell), leave your home immediately, go to a location away from the leak and the emergency authorities
  • DO NOT cause a spark by turning on or off lights, lighting a match, smoking, etc. Explosions or fire can result
  • DO NOT return to your home until you are notified by authorities it is safe
